Redi-Rock Retaining Wall After Mudslide in Asheville

This homeowner faced a distressing situation when a mudslide from Helena threatened to engulf their driveway and potentially their home.

Located in Asheville, NC, near the river and just above flood level, the situation was critical.

The earth gave way where water was rushing down the mountain, uprooting a few trees and causing the ground to collapse.

Greenscapes took action to clear the storm-damaged area, excavating it to rebuild the wall.

The homeowner and I chose Redi-Rock as the ideal material for this project.

To prevent further erosion, we terraced the wall. I designed it so that any approaching water would be directed away from the structure.

We installed the wall on a gravel base with a 4-inch corrugated pipe for effective drainage.

We landscaped the area around and above the wall with various shrubs and trees, whose root systems help prevent erosion.

We then applied mulch, which offers several benefits: it keeps the soil cool in the heat, protects plants from extreme cold, retains soil moisture, and suppresses weeds to some extent.

Additionally, mulch breaks down into fertilizer, nourishing your plants.

For our mudslide project, we used Redi-Rock for the structure.

The plant selection included a mix of juniper, dogwood trees, and serviceberry, complemented by double-ground mulch. We also used weed fabric and gravel to complete the setup.

The entire project was executed flawlessly from start to finish. After completion, we even pressure washed the homeowner’s driveway.

The homeowner was the coolest guy ever.

We addressed a landslide issue for him, saving him a significant amount of money while delivering a superior project outcome.
